Council’s town-centre plan identifies heritage sites along the Princes Highway and railway corridor. These layers make it unsafe to guess a roof’s age from the suburb name.

One documented example is Daisy Bank at 262–268 Princes Highway: Council’s library describes it as a weatherboard house with wide verandahs and a corrugated metal roof. It is a specific heritage place, not evidence that nearby homes share that roof. On your property, check the profile and fasteners, identify replacements and record ridge, valley and flashing details before ordering materials.

Dapto is on the western shore of Lake Illawarra, with Mullet Creek and other waterways linking the suburb to a wetland and lake setting. The town-centre plan identifies a creek corridor and flood-affected area north-west of the business and industrial area, while local history explains why the first station avoided low, swampy ground. Those records do not classify every Dapto block as flood affected; they make water movement worth considering.

Council’s flood information and online maps should be checked for the property, especially before alterations. At roof level, inspect valley capacity, gutter fall, downpipes and where roof water is discharged.
